This new DMC floss colors pattern uses all 35 of the solid colors DMC released in 2017. It’s now available in my Etsy shop!
I created a thorough review of these 35 new colors, where you can see how they fall in the newest DMC color card and what new colors are my favorite additions. There are even a few cases where I slightly disagree with DMC in the order of these colors on the card (I’m winking at you, numbers 24, 25, and 26) and offer suggestions as to where I think they might be a better fit.
As with any new products from DMC, the release of these new colors was accompanied by a few attractive and more traditional patterns, but I wanted to make a fun and relatively quick-to-stitch project where I could see how the colors interact with each other a little more.
The photo above shows the project with the center panel un-stitched. I thought this would look great as a border for some personalized lettering in the center panel – possibly someone’s name, a favorite saying, or just one word. It could also be finished as a very fun picture frame. One of the nice things about this project is that it uses very little of each skein, leaving plenty of floss to use on other patterns.
I did draw some inspiration for the geometric shapes of this pattern from the work of Matt W. Moore, and especially his Vectorfunk Series #5. His use of geometry and bold color is striking. I think many of his works would translate into outstanding needlework and quilting pieces! Hopefully my pattern is a respectful homage to his works.
It would be great fun to stitch this pattern with the 35 new sparkly DMC Etoile flosses released in 2018 (and I will try to get around to that one of these days). And really, this new DMC floss colors pattern would look very cool with any of your 35 favorite floss colors. Imagine it in all reds, purples, and browns, or all greens, blues, and golds, or just whatever you have in your stash – the options are limitless!
