This Civility cross stitch pattern is now available in my Etsy shop! The quote for this pattern comes from a conversation I had with a coworker years ago. Once when I asked him a question, he gave me a snippy and unkind answer. I just looked at him and said, “You know, a little civility goes a long way.” To my surprise, it worked! He contritely apologized and answered my question.
This is a perfect project for anyone who works in an office or any type of customer service occupation, and anywhere potential clashes with coworkers or customers might happen. Now that I think about it, this is a good project for nearly everywhere!
And why is civility so important? Well, aside from the fact that it’s the key component of “civilization,” incivility is a product of fear and frustration.
When asked about her “when they go low, we go high” slogan, Michelle Obama said “Fear is not — it’s not a proper motivator. Hope wins out. And if you think about how you want your kids to be raised, how you want them to think about life and their opportunities, do you want them afraid of their neighbors? Do you want them angry? Do you want them vengeful?”
“We want them to grow up with promise and hope,” Obama added. “And we can’t model something different if we want them to be better than that.” Link to article
