This James Randi cross stitch pattern is now available in my Etsy shop:
This James Randi cross stitch pattern is inspired by his quote “No amount of belief makes something a fact.” This is a great reminder that a little skepticism and critical thinking is always a good thing!
James Randi was a fascinating character who performed as a magician as a younger man, and then turned to investigating and debunking paranormal claims. When I was a young kid, I probably saw him on the Johnny Carson show (and if I didn’t see it myself, I surely heard about it from the grownups!). He was a frequent guest of Johnny’s and would expose how various charlatans performed “miracles” when they were really just parlor tricks. Randi and Carson would collaborate to test the abilities of Uri Geller, who was a prominent illusionist and “psychic” in the 1970’s.
I also take particular interest in how Randi and his associates investigated Peter Popoff, a televangelist and “faith healer.” Here’s a video that features Randi’s investigations around Uri Geller and Peter Popoff.
What REALLY bothers me is the fact that if someone discovered they really could heal the sick, why didn’t they go to the children’s hospitals first? Why didn’t they visit dialysis centers? They had to raise millions of dollars instead? Despicable liars.
Reading Randi’s Wikipedia page provides a fascinating history of his life and skeptic work and his website has some links to other skeptic resources.
